Theoretical Predictions of Complex Formation of Group-4 Elements Zr, Hf, and Rf in H2SO4 Solutions

چکیده
Complex formation of Zr, Hf, and Rf in HF and HCl solutions has been studied both experimentally and theoretically [1,2]. Trends in Kd (distribution coefficient) values evidencing the strengths of formed complexes were shown to be influenced by such factors as pH of solution and acid concentration. Presently, experiments are under way to investigate complex formation of these elements in H2SO4 solutions using the SISAK technique [3]. To predict the outcome of these experiments, the present theoretical study has been undertaken. Accordingly, calculations of the free energy change, G, of the following complex formation reactions were performed:

Theoretical Treatment of Fluoride Complexation of Element 104 in HF Solutions
Recent experiments on fluoride complexation of element 104, Rf, in aqueous HF/HNO3 solutions [1,2] have demonstrated an unexpected behaviour of Rf in comparison with that of Zr and Hf: Whereas all the elements are retained as cations on cation exchange resins (CIX) below 10 HF, no rise of the Kd value of Rf is observed up to 1M HF in contrast to Zr and Hf when sorbed by anion exchange resins (A...
متن کاملTheoretical Predictions of Hydrolysis and Complex Formation of Element 104, Rf, in HF and HCl Solutions
The accumulated results on the extraction behaviour of element 104, Rf, from HF and HCl solutions have revealed quite a number of surprises and disagreements between separate measurements (for a review, see ref. [1]). Another open question was that of hydrolysis of Rf, where two types of experiments [2,3] revealed different trends for Zr, Hf and Rf. To clear those points, our theoretical resear...
متن کاملRadiochemical Studies of the Transactinide Element, Rutherfordium (Rf) at JAERI
Radiochemical studies of element 104, rutherfordium (Rf), at JAAERI (Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute) are reviewed. The transactinide nuclide 261Rf has been successfully produced in the reaction 248Cm(18O, 5n) at the JAERI tandem accelerator. The excitation function of the reaction has been measured with a rotating wheel catcher apparatus and the maximum production cross section has been...
متن کاملMineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the Siahrudbar bauxite deposit, Golestan Province, north of Iran
The Siahrudbar deposit is located about 25 km southwest of Aliabad-Katool city in the Golestan Province, north of Iran. This deposit lies between the Triassic limestone (Elika Formation) and Jurassic sandstone (Shemshak Formation). Mineralogical studies indicate the presence of major minerals such as diaspore, hematite, anatase, kaolinite, and chamosite accompanied by minor minerals such as boe...

Intrusion of tonalitic, granodioritic and quartz-dioritic igneous bodies of Oligocene age into Cretaceous andesite, andesi-basalt and carbonate rocks led to occurrence of widespread argillic alteration zone, along with skarnification in the northeast of Kharvana (East Azarbaidjan Province, NW Iran). Mineralogical studies indicate that argillic alteration zone includes kaolinite, quartz, alunite...
